Gum Disease Treatment

Stabilising the foundation before the cosmetics. Diagnosed and planned by Tristan, treatment delivered by the dental therapist team.

Book Consultation

Gum disease is treated by deep cleaning below the gumline to remove the bacteria and hardened deposits driving the inflammation. Tristan diagnoses and plans the case, and most of the treatment is then delivered by the experienced dental therapists at Crossbank. Bleeding gums, bad breath, gum recession, and loose teeth are common signs that an assessment is overdue.

What to know

  • Full periodontal assessment first, then a clear plan.
  • Diagnosed and planned by Tristan, then handed off to the dental therapist team for treatment and ongoing care.
  • Stable gums before any cosmetic work. Bonding, veneers, and whitening only land properly on healthy foundations.
  • Maintenance starts at 3-monthly appointments. Once stable, this typically drops to every 6 months where appropriate.

Why Treat Gum Disease Properly

Saves teeth long-term

Untreated gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss. Catching it and treating it preserves what you have.

Stops the bleeding and the bad breath

Both are symptoms of inflammation. Both clear once the gum disease is treated and maintained.

Foundation for cosmetic work

Healthy gums hold ceramics and bonding properly. Treating gum disease first protects the longevity of cosmetic restorations.

Therapy-led delivery

Most of the periodontal work is carried out by the dental therapist team. They're highly experienced in this area and dedicated to it.

Maintenance plan that adapts

Starts at 3-monthly while you stabilise. Drops to 6-monthly once the measurements are holding.

Comfortable appointments

Modern hygiene techniques like Airflow are gentle and precise. The deeper work is done with anaesthetic, so it stays comfortable throughout.

The Gum Disease Treatment Process

1

Periodontal Assessment with Tristan

45-60 minutes

Full mouth probing depths, bleeding scores, and recession measurements so we have a clear baseline.

2

Diagnosis & Plan

Tristan classifies the gum disease (gingivitis, mild, moderate, or severe periodontitis), explains what's driving it, and lays out the treatment stages and costs.

3

Active Treatment with the Therapist

60-90 minutes per session

Deep cleaning under the gum, delivered by the dental therapist team. Usually across 1 to 2 longer appointments. Done with local anaesthetic so it stays comfortable.

4

Healing Phase

Gums settle and tighten over 6 to 8 weeks. Some sensitivity is common during this phase, and you'll have clear home-care guidance.

5

Re-assessment

We re-measure at 8 to 12 weeks to confirm pockets have closed and inflammation is down. Any sites still active get further targeted work.

6

Maintenance

Move onto 3-monthly appointments to keep the result holding. Once your numbers are stable, this often drops to 6-monthly where appropriate.

Investment

From£170session

Treatment sessions typically 45 minutes (£170) or 1 hour (£226). Full fee guide at crossbankdental.co.uk/price-guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common signs include bleeding gums when brushing or flossing, persistent bad breath, gum recession, and teeth that feel loose. Many people have mild gum disease (gingivitis) without realising. A full periodontal assessment is the only way to know for certain, and it takes about 45 minutes.
