Gentle dentistry here means slower appointments, a careful local anaesthetic technique, and clear communication at every step, so you always know what is happening and what comes next. For patients who need extra support, IV sedation is available at Crossbank, delivered by colleagues trained in sedation. The aim is simple: to help you feel as comfortable as possible, without pressure and without rushing.

We understand

Dental anxiety is common, and it is usually for a reason. Most of the nervous patients we see have had a difficult experience in the past and have been putting treatment off, sometimes for years. That is nothing to be embarrassed about. Our job is to listen first, go at your pace, and help you feel comfortable enough to take the next step, whatever that looks like for you.

What gentle dentistry means here

  1. Longer appointments

We build in extra time so you are never rushed through the door.

  2. A careful approach to local anaesthetic

Slow and steady, with time taken to make the area properly numb before anything begins.

  3. Clear communication

We explain what we are planning, what you will feel, and what happens next, in plain English.

  4. Agreed signals to stop

We settle on a hand signal before we start, so you can ask us to pause at any point.

  5. Sedation available where suitable

For treatment that feels too much to face with careful technique alone, IV sedation can be arranged at Crossbank.

  6. A calm practice in a calm place

Crossbank Dental Care sits on Captain French Lane in Kendal, a quiet setting on the edge of the Lake District.

Sedation

Intravenous (IV) sedation is available at Crossbank for patients who need more than careful technique and time alone. It is delivered by colleagues at the practice who are trained specifically in sedation, not by Dr Tristan Tinn himself. It is not right for every patient or every procedure, so we talk it through carefully first, including your medical history, what you are having done, and what sedation can and can't do. If it is suitable and you want to go ahead, we explain how to prepare on the day and what to arrange afterwards — you will need a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for a while.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, absolutely. Plenty of patients book a first appointment just to meet, sit in the room, and talk through what they are worried about. No examination unless you want one, no pressure to book treatment.
