## Summary

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed into the jaw to replace the root of a missing tooth, with a crown, bridge, or denture fixed on top. Every case is digitally planned from a 3D scan before placement, so the position is set virtually before surgery. At Crossbank the implant surgery and the final implant restoration are both carried out by Dr Neil Cooper, the principal clinician and implant surgeon. Tristan handles treatment planning for the wider case and any restorative work on the surrounding teeth. Single implants typically take 4 to 6 months from placement to final restoration.

## Key points

- Every case is digitally planned before placement. 3D scan, virtual position, then surgery.
- Provisional restoration when the case calls for it (not every case needs one).
- Bone augmentation built into the plan if the site needs it.
- All done in-house at Crossbank. Neil places and restores the implant. Tristan plans the wider case and any restorative work on the surrounding teeth.

## What you can expect

1. **Consultation & 3D Scan.** _(≈ 60 minutes)_ Tristan and Neil assess the gap, take a CBCT scan to map the bone, and build a 3D plan of where the implant will sit.
2. **Treatment Plan & Cost.** Written plan with timeline, costs, and the staged sequence. Bone augmentation noted if it's needed at the site.
3. **Bone Augmentation (if needed).** When there isn't enough bone at the site, a small graft is placed first to build it up. Sometimes done at the same time as the implant, sometimes a few months before.
4. **Implant Placement.** _(≈ 60-90 minutes)_ Neil places the titanium post into the jaw under local anaesthetic. Most patients describe the appointment as quicker and more comfortable than they expected.
5. **Healing Phase.** _(≈ 3-4 months)_ The implant integrates with the bone over 3 to 4 months. You'll have a temporary tooth in place during this time so the gap is never visible.
6. **Provisional Restoration (when used).** On more complex cases we fit a trial crown to test shape, bite, and how it looks in your smile. We adjust until it's right before the final goes on.
7. **Final Restoration.** The custom ceramic crown is fitted onto the implant. Aftercare brief, and you're done.

## Benefits at a glance

- **Replace one tooth without touching the others.** An implant doesn't rely on cutting down healthy teeth either side. The neighbours stay untouched.
- **Preserves the jawbone.** Implants stimulate the bone the way a natural tooth root does, helping prevent the bone shrinkage that follows tooth loss.
- **Looks and feels like your own tooth.** The crown on top is shaped and shaded to match your natural teeth. Most people forget which tooth is the implant once it's settled in.
- **Designed to last decades.** Well-placed and well-maintained implants routinely outlast bridges. With good hygiene and regular checks, lifetime service is realistic.
- **Eat what you want.** Once integrated, implants chew like natural teeth. No food restrictions, no movement, no dental adhesive.
- **All done in-house.** Diagnosis, surgical placement, bone augmentation if needed, and final restoration all happen at Crossbank. One team, one plan.

## Frequently asked questions

### How long does the whole process take?

From the day the implant is placed to the day the final crown goes on, expect 4 to 6 months for a straightforward single tooth. Cases that need bone augmentation or sinus work take longer. Multi-implant and full arch cases run 6 to 12 months. You'll have a temporary tooth across the whole journey so there's never a visible gap.

### Is the placement comfortable?

Yes. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic so you don't feel anything during placement. Most patients describe the appointment as quicker and easier than expected. Mild soreness for a few days afterwards is normal and managed with paracetamol or ibuprofen. You'll go home with clear aftercare instructions and we'll check in with you within the week.

### How much do implants cost?

From £3,500 for a single tooth implant and crown, including basic bone augmentation. Multi-implant and full arch cases vary based on the number of implants, the type of restoration, and any extra grafting needed. We give you a written quote at consultation with the full staged cost laid out, so there are no surprise add-ons during treatment. Full Crossbank fee guide at crossbankdental.co.uk/price-guide.

### How long do implants last?

With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, the titanium implant itself can last a lifetime. The crown on top typically lasts 10 to 15 years before showing wear, and can be replaced without removing the implant. Implants outlast bridges in most long-term studies.

### Am I a candidate for implants?

Most adults with healthy gums and enough jawbone are candidates. We do a CBCT scan at consultation to see the bone in 3D. If there's not enough bone, augmentation is often possible to build the site up first. Heavy smokers and people with uncontrolled diabetes carry higher failure risk, and we'll talk that through honestly at consultation.

### What's the difference between an implant and a bridge?

A bridge cuts down the teeth either side of the gap and uses them to hold a fake tooth in the middle. An implant replaces the missing tooth root with a titanium post and leaves the neighbouring teeth alone. Implants cost more upfront but typically last longer and don't compromise other healthy teeth.

### Who will place my implant?

Implants at Crossbank are placed and restored by Dr Neil Cooper, the principal clinician and implant surgeon. Tristan handles treatment planning for the wider case and any restorative work on the surrounding teeth, so the case is owned end to end by one team.
